Welcome

Litigation is the process leading to and through trial. It is a fact of modern life that many businesses and individuals will at one time be in need of a lawyer who can "go to court" and be fully prepared to act on the client's behalf in the courtroom. Any legal case not involving accusation of a crime is usually a civil case. I have presented more than 140 civil cases to juries. I have also tried many cases to the court without a jury. Examples of the type of cases I have tried: personal injury, wrongful death, insurance cases, business disputes, construction disputes, contract disputes, municipal law cases and probate cases.

Many of the jury trials were the result of representing insurance company insureds. I have tried cases in Aitkin, Bagley, Bemidji, Brainerd, Duluth, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, International Falls, Park Rapids, Virginia, Walker and Roseau.

I was certified as a civil trial specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association in 1988, the first year that certification was available in Minnesota and continue to hold that certification.

I have been AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory since 1994- AV is the highest peer review rating given.

I was certified in alternative dispute resolution by the America Arbitration Association. I have frequently participated in mediation and arbitration as an alternative to "going to court". I am on the "No-Fault" panel of arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association.

Not all jury trials or court trials are final after trial. I have written briefs and presented oral arguments to the Minnesota Court of Appeals on eleven occasions and to the Minnesota Supreme Court in 1978 in the case of Itasca County v. Harvey Rodenz, a zoning matter.
